What is Shrove Tuesday?

Shrove Tuesday is the traditional feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. Lent – the 40 days leading up to Easter – was traditionally a time of fasting and Shrove Tuesday was the last opportunity to use up all the eggs and fats before Lent.

What will you be giving up for Lent?

Recipe

I have included a failsafe, fool proof pancake (BBC Good Food of course!) recipe below:

Ingredients:

  • 100g plain flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 300ml milk

Method:

  • Put the plain flour, eggs and milk into a bowl with a pinch of salt and whisk to form a smooth batter.
  • Set a frying pan over a medium heat.
  • Cook your pancakes for 1 minutes on each side until golden.
  • Serve however you fancy!

Super simple to make & ridiculously yummy!!

Sweet or Savoury?

For me, nothing beats the classic lemon and sugar! Although I am partial to a bit of Nutella…

If you fancy a mix of sweet & salty try the American icon - bacon and maple syrup (be warned, this doesn’t work in a crepe… this flavour combo must be enjoyed with the thick, fluffy American pancakes)!

Will you be having a pancake race today? I always remember loving them at prep school!

Happy Pancake Day!!
